The only thing more that would have been nice would be dance genre description but the writers's examples ...

Very succinct in his discussion of mixing. The Discussion of dance music structure was something I had not seen put in this straightforward of a fashion. And the writer was very clear on how to mix things up and go forward from standard structure to make your own dance tracks. The only thing more that would have been nice would be dance genre description but the writers's examples gives hints on directions to pursue.
I have more expensive books on the subject but they make my eyes glaze over. Maybe what this writer talks about is intuitively obvious to other people interested in making dance music but it hasn't been intuitively obvious for me.
This book has helped me 1000% improvement in dance music writing strategies and production fundementals. I can't recommend it more highly.

Basic but great tips!!

It's so cheap for kindle so for 5 bucks u can't go wrong. Filled with some pretty good tips and techniques for different settings for plugins. Definitely a read to augment so audio engineering skills if you make dance music.

Nice Read!

This book was a cute read to me and I really enjoyed reading it. The author did a great job of pulling us readers into the book and forming a connection with the characters. You can't help but love Cece because she was a honest character with her feelings as a teen (adult not so much) and that is something that made this book enjoyable. Nate (Neil) as a teenager was a great dude and I loved his and Cece's friendship and how he was able to see her for her and not the pretense that she puts up or the front she puts up. I also loved the dynamic of Mike, Cece, and Nate/Neil's friendship and Mike being the glue and how this friendship lasted through the years and remained genuine and true. Now my issues with this book was the fact that Nate/Neil being a country singer came out of no where. I say this because in the teenage years as long as we've "known" Nate/Neil, there was not ONE mention of him being able to sing or even interested in music. The book talked about him being the grandson of a country legend but NOTHING of him singing, this whole book pre super stardom we've "known" him as football superstar. So him becoming this country rock star as an adult was a surprise to me even though I read the synopsis and know that Nate is a singer, but once you start reading the book you forget the synopsis saying anything about him being a singer because we're so engrossed with him being a football star. Also, another issue was the whole Cece and teacher incident and the progression of that throughout the years and the fact that Cece NEVER even as an adult saw anything wrong with the fact that her teacher was pursuing/had a relationship with a minor/student (her). But other than that the book again was good in my overall opinon it's worth the purchase based off of the teenaged years but once they are adults not so much.

I have read and enjoyed books by Carina Adams before, but I can honestly say that Forever Red is my absolute favorite by her. I could not put this book down! It has several of my favorite tropes, and it all added up to one fantastic story. This friends to lovers story was also a second chance romance, and Nate and Lia were fantastic together. I know that I will absolutely be reading more from Carina Adams in the future, especially after this book.

Nathaniel Kelly is a successful country star but no matter how much he has, he has never been able to forget the girl that broke his heart. He had loved and lost Cecelia when they were kids, and he never expected to see her again. Nate spent years trying to find her, but he never had any luck until he does a show close to home. Nate is surprised to find her there with her friends, but he figures that it is time to finally get some answers. Cecelia had her reasons for doing what she did, knowing that she could never live with herself if she let Nate give up his life to stay with her. That has never stopped her from loving him or wishing that things had been different though. When they are suddenly thrown back together, they realize that the connection they once shared is as strong as ever. But can Nate and Lia have a chance together after all their years apart and all the obstacles that now stand in their way?

I cannot even begin to describe how much I loved these characters. Nate was so sweet and he really made me fall in love with him right along with Lia. He was such a good guy, and my heart absolutely broke for him when things ended for them as kids. Nate would have done anything for her, and it was clear that it was more for them than just a childhood kind of love. Their connection was deep and their feelings true. Lia had not had the easiest life, and I understood why she made the decisions she did even if I didn't like them. She was doing what she thought she needed to, and I was so upset for her because she broke her own heart right along with Nate's. These two were meant to be together, and that was clear to me right away. Their connection was so strong that it couldn't be broken, even with years and secrets between them.

Overall, I really enjoyed this story. It was so good, and I was instantly drawn in. I was so captivated by this story that I read it pretty much in one sitting. I found the world falling away as I became more invested in Nate and Lia's story. I loved that Carina Adams gave us both the past and present, and also Nate and Lia's POVs. I felt like it really allowed the reader to get a feel for exactly what each character was going through, and it gave this story a depth that is often missing when a story is told from only one POV. I really enjoyed being inside these character's heads and seeing how they were experiencing everything that happened. I would definitely recommend this book to those looking for a solid romance story with all the feels. This book was exactly what I needed, and I know that Nate and Lia will be characters I want to go back and visit again. I cannot wait to read more from Carina Adams in the future.

I am such a sucker for friends to lovers and second chance love stories. And what is great about Forever Red is that is gives us both. I loved Lia and Neil’s story and loved going on this journey with them. Their story is about love, heartbreak, forgiveness, second chances and so much more. Carina Adams did such an amazing job with this story. It is one of those books that you just cannot put down because you need to know what happens. You will fall in love with these characters and be rooting for them every step of the way. This is one of my favorite reads of this year.

We meet Lia in present day when she finds out that her friends have surprised her for her birthday, with a trip to see Nate Kelly in concert and to meet him backstage. What her friends don’t know is that Neil Kelly, the hot, sexy tattooed country star, has had Lia’s heart since she was sixteen. Twelve years ago she left, leaving behind a boy with a shattered heart.

After reading the prologue you are left wondering what happened between the two main characters. Why they are no longer together what will happen now when they see each other? I was completely sucked in from that very moment. I wanted to know all about their story. How they met, how they fell in love and what happened to cause them to be apart now. It’s been twelve years since Lisa has seen the only bout that she has ever truly loved, but she has followed his career since the day it started. She is not sure how Nate is going to react when he sees her. Will he be pissed, hurt, angry or all three? Hmmmm…..you will have to read this story to find because as I started writing this review I decided that I am not going to give any more of the plot away. You need to experience this book on your own. I will say that it is a beautiful and amazing second chance love story that will capture you from the very start.

There are so many things that I loved about this book and I feel if I list them all this review will never end. I loved that this book was written in two parts, the past and the present. We get to see and experience the good and the bad with Lia and Neil. From the moment they first met in high school to present day when they see each other for the first time in twelve years. The first half of this book gives us Neil and Lia as teenagers. You see just how in love these two are. And while you may say what does a sixteen year old really know about love, well let me tell you they had a love like no other. It is that once in a lifetime love, the one that you know will last forever, no matter how many miles or years apart. It’s the type of love that you get goose bumps just thinking about. Lia was Neil’s heart, his everything. And no matter how many struggles they faced he loved her and would do anything for her.

The second part of this book is the present. I thought I had this all figured out. That I knew exactly what the reactions would be when they finally saw each other after all these years. But I was so wrong. I loved exactly how this one played out and how it all happened in an unexpected way. It wasn’t predictable in any way and that’s what I loved. The best part is that we still get to see and feel that connection that these two always had, a connection that even twelve years apart could not break. No matter how hurt and how angry Neil may have been, one thing never changed. And that was his love for Lia. He may have has some battles with his brain and his heart along the way. But in the end I think his heart won.

Now we need to talk about Neil/Nate Kelly because my god did I love him. He had me from the start. Neil as a teenager was the guy that every girl in high school dreamed of. He was the hot football star but he was sweet and caring and a respectable guy. He was completely swoon worthy and I fell in love with him from the moment I met him. He is that guy that will capture your heart from the very beginning and never give it back. But twelve years later we see Neil as Nate Kelly, the hot, sexy and tattooed country with a voice that will melt your heart and quite possibly your panties. He is everything that you want and love in a guy and he quickly became one of my favorite book boyfriends. He is just perfect!!

I loved Lia’s character so much. I may not have liked the decisions that she made over the years but she always made them with the best of intentions. And I completely understood why she made them. What she did, she did out of love and I admired her for that. She was such a great heroine. She came from a world that was completely different than Neil's but she still held her head high and found a way to make something of herself. I wanted Lia and Nate to find their way back to each other. They were just meant to be. And I was rooting for them all the way.

This book was just fantastic. As the reader you felt it all right along with this couple. I always love a book where you can feel the connection with the two characters. You can feel how deeply they are in love. When they hurt, you hurt. When they are happy you are right there along with them smiling and laughing. I felt every emotion with this book and that has everything to do with the words written on each page. Ms. Adams created two characters that were so real and just so lovable. She made me feel like I was a part of their life and experiencing their journey with them. I honestly cannot express how much I lvdd this book. But it wasn’t just Lia and Neil that I loved. Their best friend Mike had such a big part in this story and I loved him. He was just the sweetest and best friend a boy or girl could have. I fell in love with these characters and was sad when it was all over. Oh and the epilogue I did not see that one coming at all. But I loved it and loved how it sets up the next book. A truly beautiful and epic love story. Fantastic job by Ms. Adams. Once again you blew me away and gave me one more book boyfriend to add to the top of my list. And yes I may just love Neil more than Matty...maybe. :)

She received her BA from Pomona College and her JD from Stanford Law School, where she was elected to the Order of the Coif. It keeps getting better and better

If you haven't read book 1, DO NOT READ THIS REVIEW.

The Boy in Her Dreams starts right where book one ended. So now that Roman has awakened things should be easy and everyone should be happy, don't they? Well... let's say that s*** just got real.

Once Roman takes what it looks like not only a selfish but the most stupid decision in the world, Bryn accelerates her journey to Germany. (Of course, after she sleeps for eight weeks. Crazy as it sounds it helps to move time in a faster way). The minute she and her mother set foot in Germany is when the real story begins.

This change of scenario permits new events in unknown locations, not only for us but for the characters. Put great and interesting people in a strange land and the result will be good.

This book has a dual POV, it alternates chapters between Roman and Bryn. For me it was an excellent choice made by the author. The change allows us to see where each one is and how they live the absence of the other.

Roman grows as a character. Now we really get to know him and we witness how he deals with hard times. Also it was good to see that he is not perfect at all. Bryn continues being an awesome girl. This time she has to face even bigger danger and she starts to realize that there is a whole complete world that involves her and her gifts (dreaming and all).

Their relationship matures and it's amazing how well they fit together. They have really good scenes and they're so good that you start to feel sorry for them. They have to live so many drama and threat that it feels unfair.

This book has a stronger paranormal element than the first book. Due to the mix of the shadows, the dreams, the walking between dream and reality as two separate entities, it creates a world were nothing is what it seems. There are different people, each one with their own agenda which creates a lot of conflicts, secrets and action.

As for the new characters I liked the addition of Sam, a sweet and innocent young girl who knows more than her age might allow.

This installment has the same writing style as the first and its quality is really good. The dream state is still powerful and intriguing. And agian... the emotions are super palpable.

However, the book loses half a star on my ranking for one tiny detail. There was one particular character that turned up being too obvious, I mean if you read a lot (like myself) it was clear what his or her intentions were.

And... we have a cliffhanger AGAIN. It may seem a bit confusing but if you pay close attention you will understand perfectly what the author meant by those final lines.

The Boy In Her Dreams (The Girl In Between : Series Book 2)by Laekan Zea Kemp
This novel continues from the end of the first novel and this review contains my review of that novel with a small amount about this novel added to the end.

I can't claim to be a great fan of some series that include certain elements and this one could easily fall into that category. On the other hand I have to admit that the cover intrigued me; though it did almost put me off, because I rarely read horror fiction and this had that feel to it. As usual I read the sample, which was quite adequate this time and I recommend that anyone taking an interest in this series read the sample. For this reader the sample nailed it for me because of the good crisp writing style and the excellent character development. I've read a few paranormal fictions and this one might fall within that category as well as horror and the first book definitely has less elements of horror, though as the series progresses it seems to dip further and further into a dark sense that's tainted with horrific elements. In reading the sample I think that the thing to keep in mind is that the writing style and pace remain the same, which means that if you get easily hooked by the first book then you'll most likely enjoy the first three books and like the rest of us you'll be impatiently waiting for the Forth and possibly final book of the series. Still I must add the warning that this goes on my growing list of books that I love and hate at the same time and that is mostly tied with the Cliff-hanger-ish-ness of the endings.

With that in mind my suggestion for anyone hooked by the sample would be to buy the three as though they were one very long book. Since there is little value in buying the bundled version, which is the same price as all three books separately, I'd go with the three separate because that dispels some of the reality that as one piece they are a huge and perhaps epic volume. As separate novels it at least fosters the illusion of reasonable size. Because book one and two are clearly cliffhangers I have a hard time resolving them down to individual pieces. Honestly speaking the third novel also is cliff-ish in nature, but it has a specific unique flavor to it that would allow it to exist as an ending that allows the reader a wide range of personal thought about the whole.

To get to the story about Bryn:In the first book; The Girl In Between; I have to admit that I had some reservations about the main character making use of a debilitating disease such as KLS, Klein-Levin Syndrome, as a main plot point although it does bring to mind Elizabeth Moon's The Speed of Dark in, which she has a main character who suffers autism and that was handled quite well. Both books tend to be about how the main character fights just for some small bit of normality in their life. The main difference might be that in this story it becomes clear that there might be something more going on with the main character and that it might not be KLS at all.

The story starts during one of Bryn's episodes where she sleeps for long periods of time. As it opens she's in her dream world alone as usual, but this time something, someone washes onto the beach and into her dream. A boy who has nearly drown ;and she brings him back to the brink of life just before she returns to her real life. This is the beginning of the most unusual part of book one with the mystery boy in her dreams who has no name or memories and for all intent and purpose could easily just be one more figment of her strange dreams. The dreams themselves are something that falls just outside the lines of the usual symptoms of the syndrome, but there is no mistaking that Bryn often falls to sleep for periods longer than a few days and is likely suffering something that has symptoms similar to KLS.

Book one is mostly the story of Bryn and her family as they struggle to create a normal life for Bryn. Bryn is a teen in her final year of high school and is hoping to go to college. But with the episodes still occurring and the possibility that they could be with her well into her thirties, things are looking bleak. All she wants is to be normal and to lessen the burden on her family. It is not until late into book one that the boy in the dreams and the nature of the dreams begin to become a catalyst driving the story toward the darker and more horrific elements to show up in the next book. Still without the horror there is something compelling about the authors handling of the story that drove this reader on through to the end. And though the ending is not quite complete I felt compelled to continue with reading into book two.

Book one is a good, well written, YA fantasy that addresses some of the issues of the debilitating disease and how it affects not just the patient but the whole family that surround her. It's also a novel that this reader had to pay particular attention to the many details because it was too easy to lose the way and have to check back to unravel some of my own confusion.

Though I managed to finish all three novels in one and a half days of reading over the weekend, it may take most readers a bit longer than that; but as I mentioned, if you're hooked by the sample then the rest of the writing should keep you hooked right through to the end of the third book.

In book two the story begins to dip deeply into world building as Bryn and Roman come to terms with the struggles in their own lives while uncovering the truth about the illness that has for so long mimiced KLS. This novel also begins delving into the darker side of what might be described as a Paranormal Horror as Bryn's struggle moves from trying to be normal to trying to survive. Though Bryn and Roman have some natural bond formed between them, their lives and pasts are creating a gulf that leaves them to fight their battles separately. Bryn has a possibility of help from a duo of doctors who are researching, not just the KLS but something quite similar to what she has experienced. One of the doctors lost his daughter to something similar and has promised not to let that happen to Bryn, but in this story we will find that there are many players with their own agenda and Bryn will soon find out she has few people she can trust.

The writing remains solid in this novel that should pique the interest of those who love paranormal and the elements of the horrific. But even for those who find the genre out of their sphere of interest the writing is compelling enough to draw any reader into the story. So much so that even with the second cliffhanger ending I had to continue on to see where Laekan Zea Kemp was taking all of this.

Great Follow up to the First Book

If it's possible, the second book was better than the first. The added element of otherworldly enemies helped keep me on the edge of my seat. I also loved that the author answered many questions left by the first book while still introducing new questions that would be answered later.

Fabulous in depth discussion of the cingulate cortex

Starting with the basic neuroanatomy and connectivity, this text builds through functional studies to clinical applications. The four region model is well concieved and laid out. The functional results follow logically, ending with the clinical implications. This is quite a dense text, but vital for anyone interested in the functional neuroanatomy of pain and psychiatric disease.

About the Author
Tim Brown is CEO of design company IDEO in the US, which he joined in 1987 after graduating from the Royal College of Art in London. He has received numerous awards and his designs have been exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art, New York, the Axis Gallery in Tokyo, and the Design Museum in London. Naoto Fukasawa (b.1956) is one of the best-known Japanese product designers working today. Having worked previously for IDEO in the US, he established his own company, Naoto Fukasawa Design, in 2003. He is responsible for the groundbreaking wall-mounted CD player for MUJI and has designed for other renowned companies including Driade and B&B Italia. Antony Gormley (b.1950) is a celebrated English sculptor best-known for his work with metal figures, such as the Angel of the North in Gateshead, UK (1998). He was awarded the Turner Prize in 1994. Kenya Hara (b.1958) is a renowned and award-winning product and graphic designer whose clients have included MUJI. Having established the Hara Design Institute, he is also a representative of the Nippon Design Center and Professor at Musashino Art University in Japan. Bill Moggridge is an industrial designer and co-founder of the influential design company IDEO in the US. His own designs include the first lap-top computer in 1980, the GRiD Compass, and he regularly lectures at various institutions, including the Royal College of Art in London where he is Visiting Professor. Jasper Morrison (b.1959) is one of the most influential British designers working today. His clients include Vitra, Magis and Flos, and he is responsible for classics such as the Family Kitchen containers for Alessi (1998) and the Low Pad Chair (1999) for Capellini. Masato Sasaki (b.1952) is a contributing writer of The Ecological Approach to Design, on which he collaborated with Naoto Fukasawa and Takeshi Goto. He is a specialist in ecological psychology and is presently a professor at the Unversity of Tokyo.

Kuper has adapted short works by Kafka into comics before, but here he tackles the most famous one of all: the jet-black comedy that ensues after the luckless Gregor Samsa turns into a gigantic bug. The story loses a bit in translation (and the typeset text looks awkward in the context of Kuper's distinctly handmade drawings). A lot of the humor in the original comes from the way Kafka plays the story's absurdities absolutely deadpan, and the visuals oversell the joke, especially since Kuper draws all the human characters as broad caricatures. Even so, he works up a suitably creepy frisson, mostly thanks to his drawing style. Executed on scratchboard, it's a jittery, woodcut-inspired mass of sharp angles that owes a debt to both Frans Masereel (a Belgian woodcut artist who worked around Kafka's time) and MAD magazine's Will Elder. The knotty walls and floors of the Samsas' house look like they're about to dissolve into dust. In the book's best moments, Kuper lets his unerring design sense and command of visual shorthand carry the story. The jagged forms on the huge insect's belly are mirrored by folds in business clothes; thinking about the debt his parents owe his employer, Gregor imagines his insectoid body turning into money slipping through an hourglass. Every thing and person in this Metamorphosis seems silhouetted and carved, an effect that meshes neatly with Kafka's sense of nightmarish unreality.

Adult/High School-Gregor Samsa wakes up and discovers he has been changed into a giant cockroach. Thus begins "The Metamorphosis," and Kuper translates this story masterfully with his scratchboard illustrations. The text is more spare, but the visuals are so strongly rendered that little of the original is changed or omitted. Though the story remains set in Kafka's time, Kuper has added some present-day touches, such as fast-food restaurants, that do not detract from the tale. He has used the medium creatively, employing unusual perspectives and panel shapes, and text that even crawls on the walls and ceilings, as Gregor does. The roach has an insect body but human facial expressions. Once he is pelted with the apple, readers can watch his rapid decline, as his body becomes more wizened and his face more gaunt. This is a faithful rendition rather than an illustrated abridgment.

Kuper follows his adaptations of shorter Kafka stories (Give It Up!, 1995) with one of the author's most renowned works, the tale of Gregor Samsa, who wakes one morning to find himself transformed into a giant insect. Gregor's plight, his growing alienation from his horrified family, and his gradual acceptance of the metamorphosis have come to be viewed as the quintessential symbolic depiction of modern existence. Against all expectations, Kuper's cartoonish style doesn't throw off the story's balance by accentuating Kafka's black humor. Rather, Kuper's visual depiction of Gregor's agony and the family's cruelty toward him points up what is disturbing in the tale, and the portrayal of Gregor's physical deterioration is truly harrowing. Moreover, Kuper's signature scratchboard technique, which resembles traditional woodcut style, suits the story's period, while his lively, expressive drawing lends contemporary vitality. Remaining faithful to its literary origin, Kuper thoroughly inhabits the tale, making his realization a genuine work of posthumous collaboration. The result is a Classics Illustrated with class. What a fine piece of world literature

Wow. What a fine piece of world literature. Story is grim, gripping, tautly written with tension mounting page after page. Crucial that reader understand Kafka's personal history/background, that particular era in Europe, as well as the intellectual influences that shaped Kafka as a young lawyer/writer. Influences include German realism, mysticism, Talmudic structure and logic, and French existentialism. Brilliantly imagined and I am so glad to have read it.

Strange and difficult

This has got to be one of the strangest books I've ever read. Is it a bad dream or is it the angst we all feel over our misdeeds. There were times I wanted to stop reading because it didn't seem to make sense. Now I'm quite sure it is not supposed to make sense. I'm not sure I would recommend this book to anyone a although the writing has a certain sort of genius to it. The book certainly evokes a number of feelings we don't normally like feeling.

If you love Hesse, you'll love this

I read it because it's a classic and I try to read a couple of year. The free Kindle version is not well-edited, which is a bit distracting (but what do you expect for free?). Having read Hesse in my younger days, I should have known what I was getting in early 20th century central European fiction. If you love Hesse, you'll love this. Unfortunately, I don't.
