Outdated material... Perhaps it should have been titled "Using EasyLanguage (Pre) 9.x"

While the title says 9.x, with the exception of half a page with the GlobalDictionary, I found no 9.x features like the PriceSeriesProvider, OrdersProvider, AccountsProvider, etc. that has been available beginning with 9.0 in 2011. This book was published in 2014. So I feel like the title is misleading.

Ruggeiro included "IncludeSystem" from his original book written for TS2000i.
TradeStation instructed users not to use "IncludeSystem" in 2004, so it's at least 11 years out of date.

His Excel DLL links are from 2007 and 2008 posts. Beginning with 9.x, TradeStation has a built-in Excel class and a DLL is no longer needed.

As far as the older (pre-OOEL) EasyLanguage however, the book has some good examples.

I recognize a couple of the 5-star reviews as other EasyLanguage book authors trading 5-star reviews.

For a paperback book selling for over $50 it should be better. If the price was under $20 then it ...

Several errors in this book mostly as it applies to missing code...which is rather important. For example, the complete code for the 2% Reversal System should be in "Sidebar 4:5", yet there is no Sidebar 4:5. I have yet to find the authors corrections posted online, which is usually common practice.

You should expect to have some programming experience and overlook many typos and grammatical errors. There are no explanations for programming basics. The book jumps directly into coding without conceptual definitions. The book is OK, especially since there is little to no competition, just expect these things. For a paperback book selling for over $50 it should be better. If the price was under $20 then it would be easier to overlook.

The book seems to be well written but there is an accompanying CD-Rom of DVD that should have been included with the book.

The book seems to be well written but there is an accompanying CD-Rom of DVD that should have been included with the book. So far I cannot locate the disk. Since I have MultiCharts I cannot duplicate the examples the way they are presented in the book. I understand that the MC compiler in PowerLanguage can accept and compile the EasyLanguage code. It is not much help the way it is now.

Immense fragmentation of the story and overly familiar characters made this book not one of Gordon's best

Once I'd read "The Physician" and "Shaman" I was struck with a massive desire to read all of Noah Gordon's books. This plan started going down hill immediately with "Choices" the last in the Cole trilogy. I had high hopes for "The Last Jew" though.

Unfortunately they turned out to be a little premature. It's really a shame because the premis was so good. It's 1892 and all Jews have been ordered out of Spain. But Yonah and his father Helkias are delayed, hoping to collect an outstanding debt for Helkias' fine silverwork owed by an unscrupulous nobleman. This delay proves to be fatal when a man from the families past-who was somehow involved in the earlier murder of Yonah's brother becomes involved and soon Yonah find himself totally alone-as the last Jew in Spain.

The main problem with this book is that it is really, really fragmented. Yonah wanders constantly to avoid the inquisition and so none of the other characters or settings last that long. The back of the book makes it sound like the novel contains some epic love story but its completely false advertising. The truth is no character is around for more than a couple of chapters.

The other main problem is that Yonah is essentially the same character as Rob in "The Physician", Rob in "Shaman" and Shaman in "Shaman." Not only are these four characters all the same physically, but their mental and emotional states are remarkably similar. Within a series that's about several generations of family similarities like that might be ok, but if all the books an author writes have such non-diverse characters it just shows a lack of imagination.

All in all I might have liked this book better had I not read other Noah Gordon books first. His writing style and pure use of language is wonderful as always, but with the fragmentation and oh-so familiar characters it just couldn't hold up to his better books.

Sad but wonderful story!

This is one of the best books I've read in a while. The setting is fascinating and terrifying - the Spanish inquisition. While the inquisition is a continual backdrop - especially the first half of the book - the book is not really about the horrors of the inquisition in the blood and gore sense. Yes, there are some passages about the brutality, but this book is at its core a deep character study.

The Last Jew is about Yonah Toledano, a man who by circumstances ends up orphaned at the time of the expulsion. It is too late for him to leave Spain and he does not want to convert to Catholicism (he is offered the opportunity to stay in Toledo and become the adoptive son of his father's friend, an "Old Christian"). Instead, he leaves Toledo alone with a burro and meanders across Spain, terrified of being discovered but steadfastly opposed to converting to Catholicism. He finds himself in various cities, tries out several professions and meets some interesting people along the way. He uses adopted names, eventually settling on Ramon Callico. There is the constant fear of being turned in and he gradually learns to act outwardly as a Catholic. He tries to keep up with Jewish tradition, but as time comes, he remembers less and less. He struggles to remember, but there is no one to remember with him. Eventually, Yonah finds his way to Saragossa and becomes a physician. At the end of the novel, Yonah has changed - he realizes that for better or for worse he must be an outward Catholic and he assumes the identity of an "Old Christian." He goes to church to keep appearances and over time he forgets the prayers and the traditions. He learns to hob-nob with preists and no one suspects that not only is he not an "Old Catholic" - he never even converted to Catholicism! Yonah is a Jew until the end, but ultimately, he adapts.

This books is definitely not "light reading." I felt sad through most of it - only at the end is there a glimmer of happiness. Nonetheless, I recommend it!

Familiar rhythms

Fans of Noah Gordon will find much comfort in this book. He returns to familiar themes and rhythms in The Last Jew. Stylistically he borrows much from both master works The Physician and Shaman. While the themes and rhythms of the book are familiar Gordon brings forth a compelling new story that entertains from beginning to end. Perhaps Gordon is somewhat of a nomad, for it is the wanderings of his characters that they take form.
The Last Jew paints a vivid picture of one of Christianity's darker moments, yet in the end shows how the goodness of a person can triumph over even the greatest obstacles. Yonah Toledano discovers the cruelty of Christianity as an institution bent to serve other purposes. He discovers the true Christianity in the hearts of those who take him into their lives. The irony of the book lies in the affirmation of all faiths, Judaism, Christianity, and Islam through the instrument of the Spanish Inquisition.
The book is about the triumph of the soul, about keeping faith and promises and about never forgetting whom you are. Shorter by a great deal than The Physician and Shaman, it would be an excellent primer for the new Gordon reader before tackling the more complex but equaling compelling trilogy.

FE Exam Applicant - Not Vine Review

I am currently preparing for the Electrical and Computer FE Exam. I had the original Lindenburg FE review manual, but since they switched formats last year, I wanted one that was specific to the exam I was going to take. There are almost none....at all. But, I did get a lot out of the general review manual, so I purchased this one.

PROS:
- It covers ALL of the topics that will now be covered in the Electrical/Computer CBT FE
- You don't have to filter through the sections you don't need like in the Rapid Preparation Manual
- Because there are fewer areas of engineering that are covered, each section is in much, much greater depth.
- There are Diagnostic Exams at the beginning of each section to gauge how much time you need to focus on them.
- While it is not organized the way NCEES has organized the EC outline, I think they made an attempt to group similar topics together so it flows. Sometimes it works, some times it doesn't.

CONS:
- My single biggest gripe is the fact that they do not have the post section FE-style problem sets (as in the Rapid Prep). As far as practice problems are concerned, you get the diagnostic exam and one example per subtopic.

Overall, I feel confident that this is the best prep book out there for the current version of the FE. Further, I have a degree in Software Engineering, NOT Electrical and I feel like this is a good TEACHER, not just refresher. I will be buying the NCEES practice test set as my exam date gets closer, to make up for the lack of practice problems in this, but I don't consider that a deal breaker

Best study material for Electrical FE exam!

Some background information: I bought this book about two months before my FE exam. I also took the exam before my last quarter in college.

This book prepares you for everything the exam can throw at you. It's chapters are categorized by the subjects/topics that are on the exam. I used this book as my only study reference and worked through it starting two months before my exam. I did EVERY problem that was listed in here, and went over them twice to make sure I understood the question/procedure. I finished the problems about a week before my exam, and I rested the week of the exam. I passed!!! I think anyone can pass the exam if they use this book correctly. Michael Lindeburg is the man!

Mediocre. Don't be fooled by fake reviews.

book is overrated. If you are taking FE this book is terrible for electromagnetics and power. Only 2 or 3 topics from FE guide was listed.
The circuit topics didn't have examples for KCL and KVL, thevinn and Norton equivalent circuits. (Thank God for the internet).
The only topic covered 100% is maths and control systems. I will take the exam soon, and I know for sure that this guide wont help me pass. This book is overrated for sure. even topics are scattered around other topics had to go to section 24 to find power factor while other power topics are in 26 to 29 section.

Book is not worth more than $70 in my own humble opinion. I probably will pass but this book gets no credit.
had to use internet to learn KVL, KCL, and 2-port impedance models. the book solution to example for the 2-port model was horrible. Buyers beware!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Update: I took FE today and I flunked most transistor questions, no surprise due to little review in this book, and power was very challenging too. The book lacks in both of these areas. I cross my hand and hope to pass but I feel like I made 60%. General was easy and the book covered it well, but the core topics like EMAG, power, electronics, and even thevinin equivalent cir are lacking. If I had not used Internet to figure how to solve thevinin circuits I would have failed about 4 questions today. I wonder who keep giving this book high reviews were they given free books for their fake reviews. How come non of them pointed out the short ones of the book like I did? Now go girl out why.
