These range from large public- and private-sector organizations such as Nottingham Trent University and Calor Gas to smaller companies including International Information Systems in Bahrain. These have been written up into a new 'Practitioner Insight' feature in every chapter, providing a reflection on practice from twelve different individuals. In addition a 'Research Insight' feature has been introduced, summarising key papers at relevant points within the chapter and encouraging students to extend their reading by following up these references.

About the Author

Until recently Paul Banfield was Programme Director of Organization and Human Resource Management at Newcastle Business School, Northumbria University. Paul has been a lecturer in HRM both in the UK at Sheffield Hallam University, and at several overseas universities. Paul is heavily involved with the CIPD and has been a National Examiner for 8 years.



Rebecca Kay is currently self employed as an HR Consultant providing HR support and solutions primarily to the private sector. Rebecca has worked in HR since graduating from the University of Liverpool with a BSc in Psychology in 1989. Her initial 12 years in HR were based at Northern Foods where she held a number of site based roles. She also spent 2 years coordinating their graduate training programme and latterly was employed as HR Manager for one of their larger sites.

She then moved to Stanley Tools as Head of HR for the UK for 2 years prior to joining Cooper Industries for 7 years, latterly as HR Director for Cooper Safety UK, providing strategic level HR support for the UK businesses.

Following the couple's divorce, Tommy and his sons lived with Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards (and his hangers-on) in the south of France, where Tommy got heavily into heroin; Puss's thwarted plan to meet them there in 1971 would presage her suicide by sleeping pills. Capturing the tenor and tone of the era, Greenfield's dysfunctional family is just as mesmerizing as his previous big-name subjects like Jerry Garcia and Timothy Leary.

A Day in the Life

Wonderfully written account of a family that gets caught in the crossfire of the 60's counterculture revolution, which included all the sex, drugs and rock n roll possible. Enjoyed learning about the personal histories that led up to this trainwreck of a family. Even more intriquing is that we know the offspring as actors in the public eye. A real page-turner.

The darker side of the Swinging Sixties

I got this book because I had read an interview with actor Jake Weber, where he talked about his turbulent upbringing during the 1960s. He was one of two sons of a young socialite named "Puss" Susan Coriat, and her husband, Tommy Weber.

I started reading the book, and I ended up finishing it in one sitting. Robert Greenfield really manages to tell a compelling and interesting story, yet still maintain a journalistic distance.

Both Puss Coriat, and Tommy Weber came from privileged, wealthy families. Yet both sets of parents divorced, and Puss and Tommy were shuttled around to various schools and relatives. Puss Coriat's mother Pricilla was well-known - she was known as the "little rich girl" and was one of the wealthiest women of her time, yet she was foolish and a spendthrift. Tommy's parents were likewise pretty dysfunctional.

Puss and Tommy meet and fall in love and marry right at the start of the craziness that marked the mid-to late 1960s. They were right in the center of it all, and they hung around with all the celebrity rockers of their time, in particular the Rolling Stones and Keith Richards. Throw in to this mix a lot of various drugs, (LSD, marijuana, heroin, among others) and you can kind of see where this is going.

I don't want to give anything away, but there is not a good ending for either parent, in particular, Puss. She develops a sort of drug induced schizophrenia, and had an apparent psychotic break along with depression. (Her reaction reminded me a lot of Sid Barret's from Pink Floyd, and in fact he is even mentioned in this regard.) Tommy's life continues with the focus on drugs, sex and rock 'n roll, which doesn't serve him well as he ages.

In short, this is a fascinating little book that really gives you a sense of what that decade and lifestyle were all about. It's one thing to choose that way of life if you are on your own, but it's a different case if like Puss and Tommy, you have two small boys. My heart went out to those boys, and it's a tribute to them both that they seem to have turned out so well.

Recommended, especially if you like reading about the wild times that were the 1960s, and what it was like to have been a part of the madness. My only criticism is that there are some substantial gaps in the narrative, but that's not the fault of the author as much as there were few (competent) witnesses around to say what happened. I'm not sure if I ever felt like I "knew" Puss, or for that matter even Tommy, but the book amply demonstrates how people with such promising futures could mess up their lives due to partying, drugs and alcohol, in a decade that seemed to revel in it all.

A Modern Fairy Tale

What an amazing story! A Fairy Tale but one that doesn't end with "they lived happily ever after". Greenfield reveals a part of the swinging 60's that ads to the saying "sex drugs and rock'n roll", heartbreak and despair. I was totally engrossed in this story and could not put it down. WHen is the movie coming out?

Medical Math and so much more.

Same product here that is sold in my college book store at the same price. This comes in a laminate tri-fold with a 3 hole punch for your binder if needed. Whether you are a student or professional, the information contained on all six sides is pertinent, easy to read and durable. All the math equivalents you'll ever need are here including common abbreviations, (b.i.d., p.c., po, q.i.d, ss etc...) There is also coding measurement for burns in adults and children, APGAR, Pediatric definitions, clinical indicators, Pressure Ulcer Risk Assessment, lab values, needle length/gauge and on and on... LOVE IT!

This is a quality product. An asset for any new nurse to have. If it weren't for my RN nurse instructor showing me these, I would have been without an incredible source of information. It is not only math information, but measurements for peds, vital signs, childhood milestones, APGAR scoring and much more. LOVE IT!!!

It was Unexpected

You do not see IR books with a BW/AM, ever. The closest that I can think of is the Battaglia Series by Sienna Mynx, but I am stretching that. Because of this, I immediately bought the book. The story was fun, I enjoyed. It was your typical boy (who happens to be a major int’l pop star) meets regular working class gal who has no clue who he is at first then the normal situation of how can she fit in his world? Will she be accepted? Yes, a predictable story line, but with BW/AM twist. I like learning Korean words. (Although I still don’t know the translation of Jahgi. I will have to reread, I may have missed it.) The band members were fun and would love to read a short side story on all of them. I am interested in K-Pop so I had my own visuals, the fictional band in the story, T4L it was Super Junior/M and Big Bang. (For G.K. my visual was the rapper G-Dragon.) For the hero Kai, my visual was the hottie in the Fast & Furious movies Sung Kang, sometimes Daniel Dae Kim. I had to give the author a ding for the grammar/spelling errors found in the book. But overall, it was an enjoyable little read. Thanks Ms. G. Oh, and if anyone knows of any IR books with a BW/AM let me know, would love to read more.

Ahh! Loved It!

This was a really great read. I loved Noel and Kai and just couldn't put the book down. Although both hero/heroine were young, early 20s, I found them to be responsible and knew what they wanted. There were minimal drama and the Kai's band mates were very fun and supportive. I would love to read more about Noel and Kai as they grow together, especially if Noel is making her home in Korea.

Totally, like totally, unexpected!! And freaking AMAZING!!!!!!!!!

I absolutely LOVED this book!!!! After getting halfway, yes halfway, through this book, I stopped where I was at and returned to the beginning to burn this romance into my memory ( I have never done such a thing before). Perhaps it's my love for heroines who are dark skin, curvaceous, hard working women or because I love me some hot Asian guys (shout out to the hot Asian guy in the Fast and Furious movies!!), but I found this story to be sooooooo amazing!!!! This writing was so descriptive that I felt like I could see the concert scenes playing out before me - now that''s true talent, Sarah G! And the love scenes were freaking HOT!!! So hot that I had to reread their first encounter several times - yes, people, it was that hot!!!!!!!!!!! And I so enjoyed all the supporting characters, esp all the other band members!! Sarah G, I beg of you to pick up the pen and give G.K. the love of his life......and please make her a sister:--)

I haven't read a book this addictive, yes addictive people, since "The Beast" by Pepper Pace! No doubt that I will read this book over and over and over again!! Yes, there were some grammatical errors; however, they did not take anything away from this story! I searched and saw that this is your only IR romance published - please don't make it your last. I know true talent when I read it (hello Pepper, Sienna, Latrivia), and I so see you being included in that group one day. I am so looking forward to the next book (G.K. story hopefully) and thanks in advance!! Sarah G, I don't do this often and especially not for an author that I just encountered; however, I must give you a standing ovation for this one!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Fun coloring book for Harry Potter Fans but has some issues which effect coloring – printed on both sides of page

Rather than discuss how this is like or different from the books and/or movie series except to note that the iconic images seem to be taken primarily from the movie, I will discuss only how I feel about it as an adult coloring book.

The book is illustrated by a variety of artists and it shows. Some of the designs are simply drawn and some are complex, a few with small intricate details that may be difficult to color. I am really glad that they did not over draw the faces with too much detail as I will be able to add my own blending (this was a problem with the recent Sherlock coloring book.) Some of the designs are quite heavy on black spaces – something I would have preferred to put in myself. Otherwise, the designs are well done artistically. They have included glossy pages at the end of the book – perhaps so we can know what colors are to be used or simply as a fun addition to the book.

The book is printed on both sides of off-white heavyweight and non-perforated paper. A good number of the designs are printed across two pages and merge into the bind (which is glued rather than sewn.) I did a count and this is what I came up with: 40 one page designs, 4 of which are “wallpaper” repeating patterns; 19 designs spread across two pages – 5 of which are wallpaper style designs. Unfortunately, a good many of the iconic scenes were in the ones that were spread across two sheets. I was able to bend the binding enough to get the book to lay flat and found that the pages lines up very well and I didn't lose any of the picture into the binding itself.

What was weird for me is the smell of the book. I can only think that it is the ink and/or the paper but I had several individuals smell it and we all said it was reminiscent of mildew. I've bought inexpensive paperback books in the past with the same odor and I have never been able to figure out what it is. It is not mildew but it kind of smells like it. The smell is present inside and also on the cover. If you are sensitive to scent, you may want to take this into consideration.

I tested my coloring tools: all markers bleed through though Staedler triplus fineliners merely left a shadow of color rather than full ink – but you could tell what the color was from the back of the page. Gel pens did not leak through but again, there was a very light shadow. The paper did well with various coloring pencils.

In the end, the fact that ink could leak through and the pages were printed doubled sided was enough for me to take away a point. It forces me into coloring pencils of losing part of the book. I wish the book had perforated paper but I don't detract for that. The odor – well, that may be only a few books, so again, I won't take away for that but do check to see if yours has a similar smell.

Completely and utterly disappointed with the artistic style of the ink drawings

I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Harry Potter stories so, like everyone else on the planet, I got excited when I learned that Scholastic Books was going to be releasing a new Harry Potter coloring book. For sure, there have been other Harry Potter coloring books, but lately there seems to be a resurgence in all things Harry Potter. There are books that take you behind-the-films such as Harry Potter Film Wizardry and Harry Potter: Magical Places from the Films: Hogwarts, Diagon Alley, and Beyond. And, earlier this month, the gorgeous illustrated edition of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone: The Illustrated Edition (Harry Potter, Book 1) was released. For me, this resurgence is terribly exciting because I came to read (and fall in love) with the series well after the last book was published and thus missed out on the release of and excitement for all sorts of Harry Potter “things.”

Anyway. Back to the coloring book! I was really excited that I would be able to re-visit the wizarding world via coloring. Especially since the blurb on the back cover promised:

“…explorations of Hogwarts Castle, the Forbidden Forest, and much more…[and] pages of magical creatures and iconic scenes from the films…as well as some of the marvelous props used in the movies…”

However, once the coloring book arrived in my hands my excitement turned quickly to disappointment. I had visions of all sorts of things I hoped I would be able to color: the Hogwarts Express; a Hogwarts Castle corridor with magical portraits and statues; The Great Hall; the Hogwarts Library; a classroom setting; school supplies; a textbook page; or even storefronts (or interiors of shops) from Diagon Alley or Hogsmeade. None of these make an appearance in the coloring book.

Also, I’m not sure how to describe the artistic style of the ink drawings other than to say bluntly that I do not like it at all — and oh how it hurts my Harry Potter fangirl heart to say that. I had high expectations for this coloring book and was very much let down — much more so by the artistic style than what I had hoped to be able to color.

Adult coloring books are super hot right now, and while I ♥ Harry Potter, maybe this brand new Harry Potter coloring book is just too much of a good thing. Is there such a thing as too much Harry Potter merchandise? Either way, Scholastic Books plans to release at least three more Harry Potter themed coloring books in 2016: Harry Potter Creatures Coloring Book (January 2016), Harry Potter Magical Places & Characters Coloring Book (March 2016), and Harry Potter Artifacts Coloring Book (June 2016).

Part of me wonders if I’m going to the be the only one who is completely and utterly disappointed with this coloring book.

Loved this book as soon as I saw it!...but then I started flipping through the pages! One looks like a 3 year old drew it and the other is a double page of dancing, nipple pierced trolls! What!?! There's main characters that don't even have double pages but these ridiculous trolls do?

Excellent Book

I highly recommend this book not only for ArcGIS Developers of all levels but also for students and GIS Analysts who want to get more knowledge in the topic of developing applications for ArcGIS using ArcObjects.

The book was published recently and the author uses the latest ArcGIS release at this time which is 10.3. The examples are written for the Visual Basic version of Visual Studio .NET and although I am not a developer I have been able to adapt the examples from the book in some applications we are building at work.

The author goes from simple examples to intermediate and more advanced applications that can be easily applied to your daily flow of work. I particularly found interesting the application in chapter 4 “Real Time Maneuvering” where a person is been tracked through the GPS signal of a cell phone and the distance from this person to a control tower is updated in real time to finally calculate signal strength.

The author hosts a channel in Youtube called IGeometry where he has published a big amount of videos in the topic of ArcObjects and that He keeps up to date with new releases of videos. You can reach him with question and most of the time He answers shortly.

Ok so basically this book is exactly like a "Where's Waldo" book but instead of looking for "Waldo" you are looking for "Kevin". There are alot of wacky and funny things going on. And once you get done finding Kevin you can look for other things throughout the pages too! If you can find this book at a decent price and in new condition, I would say it would be a good buy! I would say this book is for kids anywhere from age 7+ adults might find it funny too!

Pocket medicine does it again!-----Awesome

I am in OB/GYN Women's health rotation right now and this book is priceless. Its up to date, down and dirty so you can keep moving and think on your feet. This is my second pocket medicine book and I am now loyal to them after trying others. If you only need one other thing get uptodate for your electronic device with pocket medicine in your lab coat and you can fly during your day without a need for anything else.

my husband was using " pocket medicine " for a years.. and i have been waiting for OBGYN edition. i was soooo excited . and i was not disappointed,,,, for a week now every time i got the answer i need from my pocket. thank you for everyone who make my dream true.

Good reference, terrible index

Good reference, terrible index. I so rarely find what I'm looking for in the index that I use the table of contents to decide what chapter the topic MIGHT be covered in, and then scan the whole chapter looking for it. I recommend annotating the index as you go for things you look up. Good breadth of info though. I'm a certified nurse midwife and use this book every day, especially for more medically complex patients that I see in clinic.
