Amazing book - to guitar players only - , if you want to learn VH songs and EVH style, this is the book, of course, you have to know about it and have good technical skills with the instrument, add some good ears too... all the tabs are oriented to the guitar and are perfect... exacts and easy to understand...

They provide enough steps in their solution to help the student keep up, but not so many steps that the student doesn't have to think…This book is very accessible compared to many texts. It is written clearly...It has excellent integration with MATLAB. I like the fact that the authors have no trouble introducing functions to complement the MATLAB functions."

"This book has developed a suite of MATLAB functions that can be used to determine standard digital filter structures including the direct form, cascade form, parallel form, and lattice form. The MATLAB scripts are provided with detailed explanations. Numerous examples along with block diagrams and discussions are included to show how these functions are used. Overall, I find the authors' treatment of the subject, including the MATLAB functions and examples, is among the best compared with other textbooks I know of…In terms of the treatment of using MATLAB for DSP teaching at the undergraduate level, counting the number and variety of MATLAB examples and problems, this is the most competitive book on the market in my opinion."

About the Author
Dr. Vinay K. Ingle is an Associate Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Northeastern University. He received his Ph.D. in electrical and computer engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1981. He has broad research experience and has taught courses on topics including signal and image processing, stochastic processes, and estimation theory. Dr. Ingle has co-authored numerous higher level books including DSP LABORATORY USING THE ADSP-2181 MICROPROCESSOR (Prentice Hall, 1991), DISCRETE SYSTEMS LABORATORY (Brooks-Cole, 2000), STATISTICAL AND ADAPTIVE SIGNAL PROCESSING (Artech House, 2005), and APPLIED DIGITAL SIGNAL PROCESSING (Cambridge University Press, 2011).

Affiliation: University of California, San Diego and Northeastern University Bio: Dr. John Proakis is an Adjunct Professor at the University of California at San Diego and a Professor Emeritus at Northeastern University. He was a faculty member at Northeastern University from 1969 through 1998 and held several academic positions including Professor of Electrical Engineering, Associate Dean of the College of Engineering and Director of the Graduate School of Engineering, and Chairman of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. His professional experience and interests focus in areas of digital communications and digital signal processing. He is co-author of several successful books, including DIGITAL COMMUNICATIONS, 5E (2008), INTRODUCTION TO DIGITAL SIGNAL PROCESSING, 4E (2007); DIGITAL SIGNAL PROCESSING LABORATORY (1991); ADVANCED DIGITAL SIGNAL PROCESSING (1992); DIGITAL PROCESSING OF SPEECH SIGNALS (2000); COMMUNICATION SYSTEMS ENGINEERING, 2E (2002); DIGITAL SIGNAL PROCESSING USING MATLAB V.4, 3E (2010); CONTEMPORARY COMMUNICATION SYSTEMS USING MATLAB, 2E (2004); ALGORITHMS FOR STATISTICAL SIGNAL PROCESSING (2002); FUNDAMENTALS OF COMMUNICATION SYSTEMS (2005).

About the Author
Professor Yvonne Jewkes joined the School of Applied Social Science at the University of Brighton in January 2016 as Research Professor in Criminology. Prior to that she was Professor of Criminology at the University of Leicester (2007-2015).

Her main current research interest is the impact of prison architecture, design and technology on the lives of prisoners and prison staff. She has recently written on the theme of ‘doing prison research differently’ and about the role of emotion and auto-ethnography in prison research. She is also researching the potential role of computer-mediated technologies on the everyday lives and future prospects of prisoners; and the particular problems that face elderly inmates, from the poor design of prisons to end-of-life healthcare. A theme which has underpinned much of her previous work is that of self and identity: how masculinity is 'performed' in men’s prisons; how lifers manage their identity through a disrupted lifecourse; how new communication technologies permit individuals to create, transform, play with, or steal identities and how researchers gain from being attuned to the emotional and auto-ethnographic aspects of their work

I received the book which there is no color image, the whole book is illustrated in black and white. I Paid US$ 180 and shipping I I thought that the book was lavishly illustrated and colorful. The text is excellent. Although the text being excellent I was disappointed with the book.

Great Content but a Brick of a Book

This book is a seminal text--and important for any serious designer or enthusiast to own. Munari is a master. The content is superb and classic. However, combining all three texts into one book has resulted in making what amounts to a hard-to-handle brick. Not to be negative, but one is probably better off purchasing each of the three books individually.

This book is perfect for everyone from historians of visual form, to graphic design students all the way up to professional designers and artists. Munari makes parsed connections between the shapes we all see everyday as conveyances in contemporary design (communication, products, architecture), and reaches back into the history of various civilizations in order to uncover archetypes, uses, symbology, significance, meaning and best practices. It's a pleasure to behold Munari's style: his combination of economical writing and visual case study.

Richard Béliveau is a leading authority in the field of cancer research. He holds the Chair in the Prevention and Treatment of Cancer at the University of Quebec at Montreal, where he is a professor of biochemistry. He is the director of the Molecular Medicine Laboratory of UQAM—Sainte-Justine Hospital (Centre de cancérologie Charles-Bruneau) and is also a professor of surgery at the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Montreal. Beef with lemongrass

Preparation time: 20 minutes
Difficulty: easy

Beef with lemongrass is delicious with perfumed steamed rice seasoned with fish sauce.

175 ml (3/4 cup) vegetable oil
160 g (1 cup) onions, finely sliced
2 tsp garlic, minced
2 tbsp lemongrass, chopped
2 tsp fresh ginger, minced
160 g (1 cup) green onions, finely sliced
500 g (1 lb) beef, Chinese fondue cut
60 ml (1/4 cup) fish sauce (nuoc-mâm or nam pla)
2 tsp sugar
2 tbsp sesame seeds, toasted
Salt and freshly ground pepper
Several leaves of fresh coriander

Heat the wok over high heat, add the oil and cook the onions, garlic, lemongrass, ginger, green onions, and beef over medium-high heat for 1 to 2 minutes.

Add the fish sauce, sugar, and sesame seeds. Season with salt and pepper to taste, and cook for 1 to 2 minutes over medium-high heat.

Serve immediately, garnishing with the coriander leaves.

Oat and ginger shortbread cookies

Preparation time: 1 h 15
Difficulty: average

70 g (3/4 cup) rolled oats
240 g (1 cup) butter
240 g (1 cup) brown sugar
1 tsp ground ginger
225 g (1 3/4 cups) all-purpose unbleached flour
30 to 60 g (1/2 to 1 cup) crystallized ginger, finely chopped

Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).

Chop the rolled oats in a food processor and set aside.

Mix the butter and brown sugar together until creamy.

Add the ground ginger, rolled oats, flour, and crystallized ginger.

Pack the mixture into a large rectangular 30 x 25 cm (12 x 10 in) cake pan with your hands.

Using a knife, make incisions in the form of squares, diamonds, triangles, or rectangles on the surface of the mixture.

Bake in the oven for 30 to 35 minutes, until the top is golden.

Cut the bars along the incision marks while still hot, set aside and let cool completely before serving.

Nice looking, difficult to USE

I would have liked to give this book 5 stars, but it has serious flaws for a cook book. I have read Anti-Cancer, the book on which these recipes are based. A whole half of this book is dedicated to reiterating what foods can fight cancer. The second half is the "cookbook". The major problem with the ease of use of the cookbook is that the index is useless! Browsing through the recipes, I noticed at least 4 recipes that feature lentils. When I was ready to make some Lentil and Carrot Soup, I open the book's index to find the recipe. In the index, Lentil is not listed. Nor is Carrot. Nor Soup! Now I've got to flip through the beautiful photos and other recipes hoping to come across the one I want. That's a disappointment. The editor of this book needs a different job.

Worse than Useless

I am amazed that this book was even written by the same authors as the excellent "Foods to Fight Cancer". The first half of the book does have some very useful information but starting with the very first recipe things go downhill quickly. The first four ingredients (of a six ingredient recipe) are sugar, oil, eggs and white flour. These are foods that actually promote cancer - as anyone who has read the outstanding book "Anti-Cancer" will easily see. The wheat bran and blueberries that finish out these muffins cannot possibly compensate for the harm of the first four ingredients. What follows are more recipes full of sugar, oil, flour and animal products (such as cheese and beef) all of which are known to accelerate cancer growth. I love their other book but this one is likely to do more harm than good. For a much better book on cancer nutrition read "The Cancer Survivors Guide" by Neal Barnard and Jennifer K. Reilly or "The China Study" by T. Colin Campbell PhD.

This is an outstanding book that provides information both about how cancer works and how food works to help prevent it. With this information you can prepare a diet that will certainly help you live longer whether or not you have cancer. It outlines specific foods and how they help fight cancer so you can drill right down on the most important foods you need in your diet.
