About the Author
Péter Losonczi: fields of research are early modern and contemporary philosophy of religion, inter-religious dialogue, and postsecularism. His publications cover these areas and he is involved in several related research projects. He is editor of the book series Schnittpunkte/Intersections (LIT Verlag, Münster) and Dialogos (L'Harmattan, Budapest), and a member of the editorial board of the journal Katekhón. His publications include Reflecting Diversity: Historical and Thematical perspectives in the Jewish and Christian Tradition (co-edited, Lit Verlag, 2007) and forthcoming edited and authored books include: Religion, Philosophy, Theology: On the Idea of Interreligious Dialogue (authored, in Hungarian, Akadémiai, 2009); Religio Academici: Religion, Scepticism, and the Pursuit of Knowledge (co-edited, Akadémiai 2009); Philosophy Begins in Wonder: An Introduction to Early Modern Philosophy, Theology, and Science (co-edited, Pickwick, Eugene (Or), 2009). Mika Luoma-aho: is in the editorial board in both of the two Finnish political science journals, Politiikka and Kosmopolis. His research interests include critical international relations theory, political conservatism, and Christian political symbolism. He has published several articles internationally on Carl Schmitt's political theory and theology, most recently in International Political Sociology (3:2009). He is also the responsible leader of a research project on the political theology and civil religion of Laestadianism, a Christian revival movement, also funded by the Academy (€375,000, 2010-2). Aakash Singh's scholarly interests range from comparative political philosophy to liberation theology. He is author/editor of several books, including: Eros Turannos (authored, UPA, 2005); a French edition/translation of Maulana Azad's India Wins Freedom (ICCR, 2006); Buddhism and the Contemporary World: An Ambedkarian Perspective (co-edited, Bookwell, New Delhi, 2007); Reading Hegel: The Introductions (co-edited, Re.Press, Melbourne, 2008). Excellent Textbook on the subject:Also a good reference

This excellent book covers more than the basics of exercise physiology with hundreds of references to studies, charts and graphs. Everything, it seemed to me, was backed by empirical evidence. There is still much to be learned in this field, but I think anyone interested in the subject would do well to own this textbook. It is written on an introductory college level, in my opinion. I rated it 5 stars based on the presentation of the material and sound scientific basis for ideas presented.

Excellent book

I bought this book 2 months ago. It has a lot of chapters explaining different subjects, such as nutrition, VO2 max etc. I definitely recommend it to university's students who want to learn more about exercise physiology, nutrition and how the human's body system works.

Great text book

I used this book to help with my graduate level courses in physiology and it helped tremendously. Some of the information was different from other text books I have used in the past, but besides that this was a great resource.

Monte Melnick's Flying Rock and Roll Circus

For all the years that The Ramones weaved their strange tales of Commandos, Pin Heads, Vegetables, and students of the Rock and Roll High School, there were very few constants in their lives. One of them was Monte A Melnick. He became the band's road warrior first class and managed the band through their lives. When reading his history of the band, told in both first person and a gathering of quotes and comments from other notables over time, you discover that the band that sang "We're A Happy Family" was anything but.

In fact, along with the telling it like it really was documentary, "End Of The Century," "On The Road With The Ramones" shines an often uncomplimentary light on the principles. Reading through quote after recount of Johnny's almost sadistic militarist disciplines, Joey's obsessive/compulsive disorder (he once distressed himself in a European airport that he absolutely had to return to New York and touch a door he'd missed) and as Dee Dee's addictive personality become increasingly unstable, you marvel that The Ramones carved out a 22 year career that yielded only marginal success.

Yet that is what Melnick lays out in this book. You watch as the three core band members take the job of being the Ramones and affect all they come into contact with. All who do, come out changed. Band members splinter off, sometimes only nominally damaged (Tommy) or severely (Ritchie Ramone cut himself off so completely his royalties lay uncollected for three years). There was no way a tornado of rock like these men could strike you and not throw you.

What ultimately mattered to everyone involved was the music. You can gather through the book that, even at their most acrimonious, Johnny and Joey were blood brothers at the level of rock and roll as savior to what would have otherwise been anonymous lives. In the case of Joey or Dee Dee, you may even wonder what other life they would have had if not as musicians. It makes "On The Road With The Ramones" as much a confirmation of these legends of Punk Rock as it does a destroyer of their mythology. Absolutely essential.

I have a couple of books about The Ramones, but this one is my all time favorite. I love the pictures included in this book. I like all the extra background information and the fact that it comes straight from the mouths of The Ramones and their manager ( along with others). Joey was (still is) my fave member. So it was nice discover more interesting details about him.

"It's Monte, Not Monty!"

Monte's book, "On The Road With The Ramones" tells it like it is and was.
Frank Meyer knows his punk rock.
This book is a MUST HAVE for any Ramones fan, and offers insight not only into rock 'n' roll and punk rock, but into the concept of bands themselves.
Monte is honest, sincere, and an all around nice guy. As much as I'd like to say this is my FAVORITE Ramones book, with all the infighting that goes on among these guys (and still does to this day), it's best I don't.
The pictures in here are priceless and I think Monte's pal, Shira, deserves lots of credit for helping him and Frank out with what is one of the best rock books ever written.
Buy this right away. No matter if you are a Ramones fan, or just heard of them. This book truely talks about the heart of rock n' roll. And sometimes that ain't pretty. But it sure is interesting.

Clarke is, after all, best known as the writer behind 2001: A Space Odyssey, one of the few films that depicts space travel realistically. It is thus not surprising that his tales are filled with intelligent, fresh, and fascinating ideas, as well as interesting and plausible characters. The stories on these tapes are arranged in chronological order, with titles printed on each side of each cassetteDa nice feature that more audiobook publishers should emulate. A fun collection of early science fiction. You can listen to how Clarke's writing improved over the years. Well worth the investment.

Clarke fans need this

A valuable look into Clarke's early sci-fi stories. A Clarke fan can see the roots of many ideas that he built upon in later works. There is quite a bit of introductory matter to many of the stories that is invaluable to a Clarke fan or any sci-fi fan.

A fine collection with some shining stars and a few that seem a little thin. A recommended read for any Clarke fan.

This audio book version is unabridged, and very well done, with different readers on the various stories.

Unless it is free, I wouldn't bother reading....

This NetGalley ARC review will be brief. What you read in Pursued by the Devil’s book synopsis is pretty much all you get. Seriously, there is little reason to read this 111 page novella after reading the summary. 45% is spent talking about their chemistry/desire for one another…very crudely, 25% on her explaining why it can’t happen, 25% acting on that attraction…very explicitly, and only 5% actual plot (aka..the threats).

For this reviewer, it was a very quick, predictable read. Sure, the rich, handsome, alpha protective hero’s laser like focus on the heroine was intense. Yes, he continues to pursue her even after she pushes him away. As for the frequent references of getting in touch with his inner bear, well, folks, it sounds as weird as it was. I guess you could say that inner bear was poked/unleashed in the two minute grand finale smackdown he had with the extremely predictable villain.

My recommendation is you likely won’t want to pursue this one. In fact, consider getting the devil away from it, and find a more entertaining romantic read. Unless it is free, I wouldn’t bother.

Another steamy read from Carole Mortimer!

Pursued by The Devil is a short and sexy read. Wealthy businessman, Mikhail Lysenko, is a sexy, moody, doesn't take no for an answer, Russian bad boy, alpha male. All things I really enjoy in a hero. Mikhail has set his sights on lawyer, Lindsay Carlisle and plans to make her his as soon as possible. The only problem is that her current client is on the opposite side of a potential business deal with the wealthy and powerful Mikhail. Despite her strong attraction to Mikhail, she knows she can't afford to get involved with him. But he is both persistent and persuasive and her walls come crumbling down sooner rather than later.

I enjoyed both of these characters and the different sides they brought out in each other. Their relationship moves fast but it feels real and honest. And when Mikhail and Lindsay give in to their attraction, they heat up the pages. There is also some suspense mixed in with their sexy romance and it amplifies Mikhail's protective and possessive side. Their intense relationship only gets stronger with each hurdle and they prove to be a very good match for one another.

I've always enjoyed Carole Mortimer's writing, and her latest books, including her Alpha series and Pursued by the Devil are sexier than ever.

Okay but predictable

Pursued by the Devil (International Bad Boys} by Carole Mortimer has a capable female lawyer who tries to resist the lure of a Russian businessman. Russian billionaire Mikhail Lysenko is appealing while at the same time arrogant, overbearing and borders on being a stalker. Pursued by the Devil maybe should have been called Pursued by the Bear because of the many references to it. I’m really not sure that his behavior would be welcomed or tolerated by a confident female in reality. Lindsay Carlisle for her part did seem wishy-washy, giving him mixed signals.

The overall plot is okay but predictable. I think if I had cared about the characters more than predictable would not have mattered. For the most part that sums up my feelings, Pursued by the Devil, it is an okay read.

Good Book - What I expected

I purchased this book as a reference in designing pneumatic conveying systems in a lime plant.

I found the book easy to use, not overly technical and with enough
calculations to make me feel comfortable to design a system.
